The annual two day cup carnival is fast approaching, with the Walcha Cup meeting scheduled to take place on 11 & 12 February 2011.
The Friday TAB meeting has attracted total prize money of $117,000 and the club is expecting good fields to contest top races on the program. The cup has a $25,000 prize money tag, along with the coveted Ron Martin Maiden of $22,000 and the Graziers handicap of $20,000, with five supporting races of $10,000 each.
The festivities on Friday include the ladies’ and men’s fashions on the field, which is a very popular event. The club expects a capacity crowd on the two days, and race goers will be well catered for on the meal and refreshments side, with full bar, TAB and eating facilities.
The racing will be keen on both days, with many local owners indicating their willingness to nominate horses.
Saturday presents a great opportunity to bring the whole family along, as Kids Day and the continuation of other festivities gives the day a real family atmosphere. Mum and Dad will be able to relax at the races, with the knowledge that their kids will be entertained by fashions in the field for various age groups, as well as the free merry go round, bucking bull, face painting and many other activities to keep the kids occupied on course.
Saturday will also see the running of the 1,600 metre foot race, that is run by the local Lions Club. This event attracts as many spectators as the races that are run on the day, with the contestants being from the local area.
The facilities are looking great, with all the recent rain assisting the amenity of the area; so whether you’re looking for a fun day out with mates, or the family, come along and enjoy what is always a great two days.
