The Armidale Autumn Festival marks the start of our beautiful autumn season. It’s a four-day party that the whole community is invited to. This year’s event is extra special, as we are celebrating 25 years of Autumn Festival!
Tell us a little about this year’s Armidale Autumn Festival.
The Autumn Festival organising committee is working hard to make sure the 2017 event is jammed packed with new amusement rides, more live entertainment, new food stalls and a few extra surprises along the way.
In addition to all our favourite attractions, we are lucky enough to have stunt jugglers, circus BMX riders and X Factor finalist Big T all performing in Armidale during the festival!
What is on the program?
On Friday 17th March, the festival begins with the Twilight Festival in Curtis and Civic Parks from 5pm until 10pm. There will be market stalls, carnival rides and lots of great entertainment, including dancers, jugglers, BMX riders and fire twirlers! A highlight will be the spectacular laser light show at 8:30pm.
Saturday 18th March begins with Breakfast with the Band. Everyone can join the Armidale City Band for a pancake breakfast in Civic Park from 7am.
Those with a little energy can participate in the Campus City Canter. Run or walk along the bike track from UNE to Civic Park. The Canter starts at 8am and gives everyone the chance to be at Civic Park in time for breakfast!
The Fun Fair and Street Market will be buzzing in Curtis and Civic Parks from 9am until 10pm.
At 11am the whole community can be entertained by the impressive sounds of the Massed Pipe Bands at the Mall Stage!
The Armidale Regional Council Autumn Festival Grand Parade begins at 12:30pm. This is a huge community event! The long line of floats will wind their way through the CBD, with commentary coming from the balconies of the Newie and Imperial Hotel.
The whole community can then spend the afternoon and evening enjoying the stalls, rides and entertainment in Curtis and Civic Parks. There is something for everyone! Entertainment ranges from the impressive massed brass and pipe bands to jugglers and BMX acrobats to live music and special guests – including X Factor finalist Big T!
The evening wraps up with fireworks after dark at Civic Park.
Sunday’s highlight is the Autumn Festival Criterion Bike Race, which runs through the CBD from 8am, and the Armidale Farmers’ Markets in Civic Park.
The finale event for the festival is the Armidale Cup on Monday 20th March!
How can you get involved?
Because we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the festival, we want it to be bigger than ever!
Community groups, businesses and clubs are invited to enter a float in the Grand Parade or book a spot for a market stall.
There is a prize of $1,000 for the best float!
Local performers are encouraged to get involved in groups or as solo performances.
We are also looking for an expression of interest from local businesses to sponsor the entertainment for the festival. Any sponsorship will make a difference in making this 25th anniversary the best festival for the community that it can be!
