What makes PPS unique?
We are currently the only high-quality, corporate standard, regionally-based HR company exclusively focused on regionally-based, small-to-medium and not-for-profit enterprises. As a regionally-based business ourselves, we recognise the unique challenges faced both by individuals and businesses in small communities and deal with these directly.
Unlike large-scale agencies, who may apply the same principles or templated approach to each client, we adapt our advice and services to the specific needs of each client. We go well beyond the scope of our work, taking a wholistic approach to everything we do.
Tell us about your most recent award?
We were excited and privileged to be amongst 300 business owners at the recent Armidale Regional Business Awards. We were honoured to be awarded a Highly Commended for Excellence in Small Business.
The night, though, belonged to our wonderful clients. A huge congratulations to BackTrack Youth Works for winning Excellence in Social Enterprise and Meralli Solar for winning Start Up Super Star and Business of the Year for 2018. It is a privilege working with these enterprises, and their success is richly deserved. [Bronwyn is being typically modest here, as she also received the Outstanding Business Leader Award.]
What are some of your key business achievements this year?
PPS has received NSW-wide Local Government Procurement approved contractor status for the provision of HR services. We’ve also been selected, by tender, as a preferred HR, Safety and Training supplier to Armidale Regional Council. Kim Bryan, Service Leader – People, Safety and Communications, Armidale Regional Council said, “We chose Pinnacle People Solutions because they have a proven track record in collaborating with multi-location regional business and have the depth and breadth of HR experience in local government we were looking for.”
Following Homes North’s winning of the tender to be appointed the social housing provider for the New England under the Social Housing Management Transfer (SHMT) process, we’ve been selected as their exclusive recruitment partner. This will usher in a period of rapid growth, diversification and change for Homes North, which will more than double in size and need a skilled and dedicated workforce to support their tenants. Our team are excited to be appointed to support Homes North, as it scales to meet the exciting challenge ahead and to provide ethical and independent advice and processes, partnering with Homes North to achieve their recruitment and workforce planning goals.
What is the secret of your success?
The vision for PPS from the very beginning was to make a meaningful contribution to the sustainability and growth of regional communities. There was a clear need for credible, expert HR advice for regionally-located organisations. We started in Armidale, and now operate across three states, including multiple rural and remote locations. This growth would not have been possible, however, without a great team that are aligned with our vision and values – a critical factor for any business. Ultimately, our success is wholly dependent on how well we provide our services; we believe that we’ve changed the way the businesses we work with perceive HR. We become integrated with each business and act as their trusted advisors – not just providing “fly in, fly out” support or selections on the end of an automated phone service.
We are also very proud to provide 20% of our services pro bono, to individuals and businesses in the Northern Inland region. This is provided where they may otherwise be unable to afford needed professional advice and support. In the past year, this took the form of recruitment, career transitioning coaching, mentoring, advice and representation for staff subject to unfair work practices and advice and representation for businesses managing serious misconduct matters, unfair dismissal claims, and general protections claims.
Where to from here?
While proudly headquartered in Armidale, we’ve always serviced the greater New England North West region. In 2018 we significantly expanded our service provision into Tamworth and the North West, providing a minimum of one day of service per week from Tamworth, and growing.
In 2017 we expanded our services to include HR education and training, and we’ve plans to introduce psychological support services in the future.
