Abbee Warskitt – Raising Hope fundraiser

Comments (0) Interviews

When Guyra local Abbee Warskitt had a loved one diagnosed with Leukaemia, she decided to put the foundation’s motto of Vision to Cure – Mission to Care into action. Find out how you can be a part of the ‘Raising Hope’ fundraiser.

Tell us about why you are organising the ‘Raising Hope Fundraiser’?

The ‘Raising Hope Fundraiser’ was inspired by the recent Leukaemia diagnosis of my mother in September this year. Unable to directly help my mum fight this disease, I thought a fundraiser to raise funds for research would be the best way I could help both my mum and others suffering from this awful disease.

I am hopeful that the money we raise from the ‘Raising Hope Fundraiser’ will go a long way towards raising awareness and finding a cure for Leukaemia in the future. The ‘Raising Hope Fundraiser’ was also a means of showcasing local talent and businesses in the region.

Local performers, including my sister Tyla Guy will perform on the night, and local businesses that have donated to the night will be acknowledged as sponsors of the event.

Where and when will the fundraiser be held?

The fundraiser will be held at the Guyra Community Hall on 26 March 2011. As we grew up in Guyra, we thought it would only be fitting to make it the location for the venue.

For a small town, Guyra has a pretty big community spirit – which is really appreciated when you are putting a fundraiser like this together.

What can guests expect on the night?

Guests can expect a night of great fun, food and entertainment. We would really love to showcase some of the talent in Guyra and have local acts Jenny Harraway, Andrew Moore, Tyla Guy and Mudbucket performing throughout the night.

We will also be auctioning off donations from local businesses and tables at the fundraiser.

How can people organise a table for the event?

For those wanting to organise a table for the event, gather 9 other friends and organise a table of 10. Delegate a table captain, who will then represent that table and be in charge of organising a donation from their table. Donations don’t need to be extravagant – just something we can auction off on the night for the Leukaemia Foundation.

When purchasing tickets, be sure that table captains are noted, so that their guests can be allocated to the correct tables.

Where can readers purchase tickets?

Tickets can be purchased for $50 at Town and Country Real Estate in Armidale and CT Electrics in Guyra. For anyone out of the region who would like to purchase tickets, or are interested in sponsoring or donating to the event, please feel free to contact me on 0413 651 485.

We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all sponsors and supporters who have assisted thus far with the event. It takes so much help and dedication from the wider community, and we are so lucky to live in a place that has shown so much support.

Thank you so far to:

Town & Country Real Estate, Regional Financial Solutions Guyra, New England Focus, CT Electrics Guyra, Kirks IGA Guyra, PLC …
