The luck of the Irish is heading to Armidale for this year’s Autumn Festival celebrations, with St Patrick’s Day falling on Saturday 17 March 2018.
The annual event, which began in 1992, has grown from a small parade to a three day festival celebrating the seasons of New England, but also the diverse and unique community that calls our wonderful city and surrounding towns and villages home. This is an opportunity for the Armidale region to come together and let their hair down during one of the many fabulous events planned throughout the three days.
Autumn Festival this year will commence on Friday 16 March and conclude on Sunday 18 March with the annual Criterium bike race through the CBD, and this year there will also be a Tour de Rocks Motor Extravaganza at the Armidale Racecourse on Sunday as well.
The highlight of the festival is always the Grand Parade through the Armidale CBD. This year Council is encouraging everyone to get involved and organise a float. The theme this year for the parade will be St Patrick’s Day, which is actually the Saturday of the festival! So, let’s paint the city green with fabulous St Patrick’s Day themed floats.
St. Patrick’s Day occurs annually on March 17 in observance of the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. What began as a religious feast day in the 17th Century has evolved into a variety of festivals across the globe celebrating Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, and a whole lot of green.
The regular features of the Autumn Festival, like the Campus to City Canter, Pancake Breakfast with the Band, mass pipe band performance, carnival rides, the grand parade, entertainment and stalls will all be back again for 2018.
Application forms for entering a float in the grand parade or if you would like a market stall can be downloaded from Council’s website at www.armidaleregional.nsw.gov.au
Return completed application forms to Armidale Regional Council, PO Box 75A, Armidale NSW 2350 or email: email@example.com by 5pm on Friday 2nd March 2018.
