The 2017 Armidale show set a precedent as one of the most fantastic shows. In 2018 Armidale Show is gearing up to top it, with many family fun events, great prizes and entertainment for everyone. FOCUS caught up with Briony, who tells us all about the 2018 instalment.
Tell us about the show this year.
The 2018 Armidale Show is coming back bigger and better than before. We have a great
line up of entertainment, trade stands and much more to see and do at this year’s show. With Sydney Show running early this year, our show has been pushed forward, so we will run in the first weekend of March. Our committee has worked very hard once again to ensure we can showcase the New England’s finest and provide the Armidale community with a great weekend out at the local show.
What special events do you have planned?
This year’s feature cake in the cooking section is a chocolate cake. We are running a European breeds feature in the stud beef cattle section, and we are also once again running our community business challenge and window display competition. All these details can be found on our website, where all our schedules are available for download. We will be having horse ball displays and competitions at the 2018 show. We also have our Bucking Madness Rodeo coming back this year, with the inclusion of a ladies barrel race, an open steer ride, as well as all the bulls and broncs. We also have the Young Farmers Challenge returning again this year, to test out the skills and knowledge of the teams taking part. Alongside of all this we will be introducing some more fun activities for the kids, with a treasure hunt planned for our schools day on Friday; we also have our Youth Show taking place in the Exhibition Centre, as well as our spectacular pavilions, trade displays and more. So, there will be plenty to do and see at this year’s show.
Tell us about the events on March 4th?
In 2018 Armidale was lucky enough to be selected to host the Zone 13 Junior Judging Finals, where there will be finalists selected to represent our Zone at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in their relevant categories. The day will kick off at 9am at the Exhibition Centre. The judging categories include: Stud Beef Cattle, Meat and Merino Sheep, Wool, Fruit and Vegetables and Grain.
On Friday, March 2nd, Armidale will also be hosting the Zone 13 Beef Paraders Competition as a part of our massive Youth Show. These Zone events are a real spectacle, and the calibre of the youth who participate in these events is very high.
Is the Armidale Showgirl on again this year?
Yes, the Showgirl Competition is running once again after its comeback in 2017. Local Showgirl judging will take place on Sunday, February 18. Our Showgirl committee is working very hard to ensure that all those who participate in the event gain as much from the experience as possible. If anyone is interested in taking part in the Showgirl Competition, please check out our website for further information.
Just on another note: in 2018 Armidale Show has been given the greatest honour in hosting the 2018 Zone 4 Showgirl Finals on Saturday, February 10th. Our Showgirl Ball will commence at 6:30pm at the Armidale City Bowling Club. For further information or to book your tickets, please give us a call or check out our event on Facebook; all the details are there.
